The purpose of this blog is to remove the rose-colored
glasses and get real. I read somewhere
recently (I can’t recall where from, but you’re welcome to weigh in on the
possibility) that a woman shouldn’t compare her behind-the-scenes to the
magazine-worthy snapshots of other women’s lives, which are so commonly posted
on the blogosphere these days. In that
spirit, welcome to my real life and all of its stirring madness.
As a Catholic, I’m in a constant state of trying to better
myself. As a mom, I’m in a constant
state of trying to create a microcosm of balanced virtue. As a wife, I’m in a constant state of trying
to be worthy of my husband. As a woman,
I’m in a constant state of upheaval to ensure that I meet each (frequent)
failure with enough craziness to just keep trying. As Meghann, I’m trying to do all of this with
a heaping dose of comedic commentary on what would otherwise bury me alive. It may be my only success, but even then,
it’s iffy.
If I post a picture of my clean kitchen, it won’t be to
brag. It will be for personal posterity,
like a self-administered “high five!” for having done what was previously a
far-fetched dream, complete with glitter, leprechauns, and unicorns.
The fact that I blog at all will likely mean I’m neglecting
something that really needs to be done.
I’m sure I’ll get over it.
Anyway, this is to hopefully connect with other moms/wives/women. Our houses aren’t always perfect. Our meals burn, toys turn our living space
into an obstacle course, the pile of laundry on the couch is usually used as a
hiding place for kids/toys/pets/shoes/books/phones before it gets folded and
put away (ok, IF it gets put away), and our furniture and ceiling fans tend to
go days, weeks, and months without knowledge of a dust rag.
Life happens in the meantime. And somewhere in there, I guess there is time for
blogging.
